Lab: Implementing Security and Compliance with Office 365

Overview

This lab explores the Security and Compliance features available within Office 365. The lab starts with a general review of core Security and Compliance features found within Office 365. The lab will then move into specific areas such as Data Loss Prevention, Device Management, Permissions and core Security along with overall Administration and Reporting. Each topic area will be discussed and demonstrated.

Note: Instructions for creating an Office 365 E5 trial tenant are in the lab and is a requirement to complete this lab.

Pre-Requisites

  • You will need to create a trial tenant at https://products.office.com/en-us/business/office-365-enterprise-e5-business-software

Exercises

Exercise 1: Logging into the Security and Compliance Center and Creating Security Alerts
In this exercise, you will log into your Office 365 Tenant and access the Security and Compliance Center. You will then access the Alerts feature, first enable it and then configure a simple Alert for users within the Tenant.
Exercise 2: Managing Data Loss Prevention
In this exercise, you will access the Security and Compliance Center and navigate further into the Data Loss Prevention management. You will then learn how to review existing policies, create and assign new policies and actions, as well as create search queries for sensitive content.
Exercise 3: Device Management for Office 365

In this exercise, you will access the Security and Compliance Center and navigate into Device Management. You will review the options available, and create a basic MDM policy.

Exercise 4: Security and Permissions within Office 365
In this exercise, you will access the Security and Compliance Center and navigate into Permissions. You will review the options available, assign permissions, remove permissions and define security for the Security and Compliance Center from there, you will learn how to use advanced
security features of your Office 365 tenant.
Exercise 5: Administering Security & Compliance
In this lab, you will log into your Office 365 Tenant, access the Security and Compliance Center and perform basic administration. You will manage alerts, modify permissions, create a mail filtering rule, create a retention policy and perform a content search.
Exercise 6: Data Loss Prevention Reporting in Office 365

In this exercise you will access the Security and Compliance Center and perform Data loss prevention reporting. You will look at the options available and run the policy matching reports.
