Lab: Introduction to ALM with GitHub

Overview

In this lab, you will use GitHub and the Microsoft Azure cloud platform together to build an application lifecycle management (ALM) environment. You will use GitHub to fork a repository and manage a project with issues and tasks. You will use Microsoft Azure as the deployment target for your forked application and will set up continuous delivery so that your resolution of the issues in the GitHub, along with the associated source code commits, will trigger automatic deployment to Azure for immediate verification of the fixes.

Details
  • Estimated time required to complete: 1 hours, 15 minutes
  • You will have access to this environment for 1 hours, 30 minutes
  • Learning Credits Required: 5

Exercises

Exercise 1: Fork a GitHub Repository

In this exercise, you will create an account on GitHub.com, if you do not already have one. After that, you will use your GitHub account to create a fork of a public repository.

Exercise 2: Set up Continuous Delivery to Microsoft Azure
In this exercise, you will create an Azure Web App where you will deploy the source code from the GitHub repository that you forked in the previous exercise. You will also setup a continuous delivery process so that the Azure Web App is automatically updated when the source code is changed.
Exercise 3: Create and use a Project on GitHub
In this exercise, you will create and use the project features of GitHub to manage an issue in the project, fix it with a commit, approve it with a pull request, and then observe the new deployment in Azure.
