Lab Overview

In this lab, you will learn the basics of authoring and deploying an Azure Resource Manager (ARM) template using Visual Studio 2017 focused on infrastructure as a service (IaaS) technologies. You will author a template that deploys a virtual machine that automatically configures a web server with a sample app as well as a virtual machine with SQL Server and a database for the sample app.

Objectives
  • Add and configure the following resources within an ARM template: Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Storage Accounts, PowerShell DSC Extensions, Public IP addresses, Network Security Groups
  • Add parameters and variables to an ARM template
  • Deploy the template to a resource group using Visual Studio 2017
Pre-Requisites
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Infrastructure as a Service
Exercises

In this exercise, you will create a Virtual Machine in Azure that will be used to complete the exercises in this lab.

In this exercise, you will create a new Azure Resource Manager template add a virtual network and then deploy it to Microsoft Azure.

In this exercise, you will add a new storage account to the ARM template, followed by adding virtual machines for the web application and for the database VM instances. You will define the virtual machine configuration using the PowerShell DSC Script extension and then lock the environment down using a network security group.

What are Labs?

Labs are where you can get hands on experience from what you have learned from lectures. You get to work in real time in virtual machines at your pace.
