Lab Overview
In this lab, you will perform several maintenance operations on an existing IaaS application. All operations will be carried out by making direct calls to the Azure Resource Manager REST API, using the Resource Explorer tool. This lab will automatically provision several virtual machines and will take 15-25 minutes to fully start.
Objectives
  • Understand how to modify an existing VM resource using the Azure REST API
  • Understand how to add a new VM resource using the Azure REST API
  • Understand how to remove a VM resource using the Azure REST API
Pre-Requisites
  • Experience of using Azure IaaS resources
Exercises
In this exercise, you will launch a browser and login to the Azure management portal.
In this exercise, you will resize the existing web tier VMs to use a more cost-effective VM size. You will also migrate them to a more cost-effective disk SKU.
All changes will be made using only Azure Resource Manager REST API calls, via Resource Explorer. In addition, the changes will be made without downtime for the Cloud Shop application.
To maximize your understanding of the REST API, be sure to check the URI path for each REST API operation.
In this exercise, you will extend the existing web tier VMs by creating a new VM, deploying the Cloud Shop application, and adding the VM to the load-balancer.

In this exercise, you will remove an existing web tier VM, and any associated resources.
