Leveraging Azure Storage with SQL Server
1 h 45 m
In this lab, you learn about leveraging Azure storage with SQL Server. You will learn how to leverage Azure storage for backup to URL and snapshot backup with SQL Server 2017.
Related Learning Path(s):
- Hosting SQL data files directly in Azure storage.
- Leveraging SQL Server backup to URL to backup directly to Azure Storage.
- Leveraging snapshot backups for sub-second backups and restores.
- A basic understanding of Azure Infrastructure as a service
In this exercise, you will create an Azure Storage Account as a target for your SQL data files. You will then create a Shared Access Signature to allow access to the storage container for your data files and create a credential in SQL Server to access the container using the shared access signature. Finally, you will restore a database to your SQL Server with the data files in Azure Storage.
In the next exercise, you will create a new SQL Server Virtual Machine. You will then detach the database created in the previous lab and attach it to the new VM you just created without moving the data files from the Azure Storage account.
In this exercise, you will create a storage account for use with the SQL Server Backup to URL feature. You will execute a backup and a restore from Azure Storage. You will then backup and restore a database using Azure Snapshot Backups.
